The first steps in Photoshop Part-01

I think (but you may disagree) that sometimes we carry out a specific task with you - to learn and memorize what you have learned is much easier, because in this and another couple of lessons we will study with you to create collages from the simplest to the most less complex, and at the same time we will learn with you many of the necessary functions of the program Adobe Photoshop, which wanted to understand almost everything.
So, in this lesson, having to start with two simple pictures of the sun and clouds:

Pictures, if you noticed in Gif format
We will try to create as a result the picture "The sun in the sky surrounded by two evil clouds":
First of all, you need to keep on your computer images with the sun and the cloud. To do this, first click the right mouse button on the picture with the sun.

In the drop-down menu, select the item Save picture as. Then in the same way we save the picture with the cloud.

Create a new image

Now we need to open Photohop and create a new image there: File - New.Name - the name of the file with the image (call it what you want).

Width - the width of the image, in our case in pixels, because we create an image for the web, but we can change the width units to centimeters, millimeters, etc. Height - the height of the picture.

Now we will create an image of 400 by 400 pixels. A pixel is the minimum indivisible point in a graphic image. Resolution - resolution, in computer graphics the number of points per unit of length or area will matter, if we work with graphics for printing, 72 points will suffice for the web. Mode - image mode.

We need the RGB mode - Red + Green + Blue - a color separation system used for graphics on websites, in which each color is divided into 3 components: red, green and blue.

And the last point that you may not be clear when you set the parameters for the new image: Contents - Transparent - Underlay for the image - Transparent.

So, when we set all the necessary parameters for the new image, we can get to work. Later, if you set the width or height more or less than you need, you can fix it (Image - Image size or Image - Canvas size), so for the beginning we set only approximate image sizes.

Open the images we already have

Now we need to open in Photoshop images with the sun and the cloud. You should already know from the previous articles how to do it, but if you have forgotten, I will remind you: File - Open.

Opened. Now, because These pictures have been saved previously as *. gif , they have a color mode Indexed Color, in order to work with them now, we need to change it to RGB. Choose a picture with the sun. Select the item in the top menu: Image - Mode - RGB color. Now choose a picture with a cloud. We perform the same operation with her.

Why did we change the color mode? The fact is that Indexed color is limited to 256 colors, also in this mode we cannot work with layers (what I mean, I will tell you a bit later), also the pictures in this mode we cannot transfer to our new picture, t .to. in it we use the RGB mode.

Set and change color

So, because we create the sky, then we need it to be blue. How to paint our new picture blue. To begin, switch to it (click the mouse on the window with the picture kollazh).

Next, select on the toolbar (if you have for some reason it is not open, call it using the top menu: Window - Tools) tool "eyedropper" (eyedropper tool).

Now we can poke a pipette on any image that we open in Photoshop, and thus take a color from it. In our case, we will poke on the picture with the cloud in order to take a blue color from it.

How to check whether we have taken a “pipette” with the color we need from another picture. Please note: at the bottom of the toolbar we have two squares.

We are interested in the upper square (it shows what color the foreground of our picture will be). If the top square turned blue, then everything turned out well.
If something did not work out during your work with images, or it turned out, but not in the way you wanted, then to cancel the action you made, press Alt + Ctrl + Z on the keyboard (via the menu Edit - Step Backward), if you change your mind to cancel the previous action, then press Shift + Ctrl + Z on the keyboard (via the Edit - Step Foward menu) to bring everything back.

There is another way to change the color: if you double-click the upper square, you will have a color palette where you can choose the color you want.
Please note that in the color picker mode on the color palette, we switched automatically to the eyedropper tool, and you can both choose a color in the color palette window and take the color eyedropper from the pictures you opened earlier in Photoshop.
Now that we have chosen the color for the sky we need, fill our picture with blue. To do this, select the “Paint Bucket Tool” tool on the toolbar, then left-click on our so far empty picture to fill our canvas with blue.

After we painted our sky blue, we will transfer the sun and the cloud to our picture. To do this, switch to the Move tool (black arrow with plus) in the toolbar. Then, click the mouse on the window where we have a picture with the sun to make the window active.

Now click the left mouse button on the picture with the sun, holding the button pressed drag the sun into the window with the sky. We do the same with the cloud. As a result, we should get something like the following:
